Let Freedom Ring
It's the day after the 4th of July and I am glad that my house did not burn down due to the actions of a local moron. But this got me thinking, if your web site has been online for anytime at all, you are a slave.
Yes, I said slave, a slave to forgotten files, layouts, and general dis-order.
So say these words, Let Freedom Ring, I will free my web site of the trash and kick some ass.
Here is the plan: Give yourself an A!
What?
Give yourself an A folder. Open up your FTP program and make a new folder called A in the root of your web folder. Next look at the listing of the web folder, how many folders or loose files do you have that are support, not content?
Do you have folders for CSS files, JS files, Images files and so on?
These files are all support so give them a home in the new A folder. Create folders under A for style, js, and anything else that is support for the web site as a whole. Copy your support files to these folders and make sure the files are really there then change your linkage from the current files to the new files.
Now hide the existing files and take a test drive of your web site. Make sure everything works as it should. When you are happy give yourself an A for number one.
P.S Leave the existing files hidden for a few days until you tested everything on your web site, maybe move them to a folder called Old while you wait.
